2025 OIPC Conference Call for Abstracts

Call for Abstracts

Each year, the Ontario Invasive Plant Council Conference brings together hundreds of professionals and concerned citizens with an interest in the management of invasive plants. We are now accepting abstracts for presentations to be held virtually on January 16th, 2025. We also encourage you to submit Phragmites related talks to be considered for the Ontario Phragmites Working Group Meeting on January 23rd, 2025.

Deadline EXTENDED: 5:00pm EST on November 29th, 2024

Conference Theme

This year’s theme will address how we can stay ahead of the “invasion curve”. It will showcase new and upcoming invasive species, cutting-edge research to detect and mitigate their impacts, and emphasize the importance of adaptive management strategies. This event will encourage people to explore innovative strategies, programs and partnerships to address the future spread of invasive species through a “leading-edge” perspective.

The OIPC invites proposals from all fields, with projects focused on advancing conversation and strategies for invasive plant management

Possible speaker topics can include:

  • Latest research on detecting and mitigating impacts of new and upcoming invasive species, as well as adaptive management strategies for controlling invasive species.
  • Innovative strategies, programs, and partnerships that address the future spread of invasive species. How can we adapt positively to change?
  • Emerging research on established invasives (i.e., new management techniques or approaches)
  • Prevention, outreach and awareness campaigns
  • Sucessful early detection and rapid response to invasive species
  • How will climate change facilitate the spread of new invaders, and exacerbate invasive species impacts?
  • Interaction or influence of natural disasters on climate change impacts (i.e., mountain pine beetle and recent wildfires in Alberta)
  • Invasions in wetlands and spread of new/upcoming aquatic invasives (Great Lakes as a pathway of spread for new invasions)
