Goutweed is a herbaceous plant in the carrot family native to Europe and northern Asia. It was introduced to North America as an ornamental in the mid-1800s. Goutweed is an aggressive invader as it is shade-tolerant and regenerates and spreads vigorously through rhizomes (an underground root system). These traits allow it outcompete native plants. Goutweed is also considered one of the worst garden plants.
